Wednesday night, February 28th, had several teams battling for a chance to play for a district title on Friday. Michigan Sports Radio had two sets of broadcasters calling games.

From Fremont the Girls Class B District 60 had Dave Princer and Maisy Nielsen on the call. Game one of the the night saw Sparta(10-11) win over Fremont(11-11) spoiling the oppertunity for the Packers to play in their own gym for a District Championship. Sparta will move on to play Friday night at 7pm. The Tri-County Vikings will be their foe. The Vikings(14-8) were able to defeat the Grant Tigers(6-15) for the 11th consecutive time. The Vikings led at the end of each quarter, 10-7 and then 20-16 at the half. The lead was extended after the 3rd quarter(33-21) and the final tally was 46-29. Tri-County won the last meeting between the two finalists, but this is the post season and a one day turn around may become a factor. Listen Live on Friday night. From East Kentwood, the Girls Class A District 6 had Joey Sutherlin and Jeff Anama on the call. Game one of the night was a bit of a suprise to several fans as the Middleville Thornapple Kellogg Trojans(7-15) beat the Grand Rapids Christian Eagles(13-10) by a score of 37-25. The lady Trojans will move on and play for the District 6 title on Friday night at 7pm. Their opponent, comming from the late game, an instant classic and a suprise as well as the Caledonia Scots(17-5) played agianst the host school EK Falcons(21-1). A last second shot wouldn’t go and the Falcons saw their perfect season come to an end. 46-45 was the final score and the Scots will move on to the District Finals on Friday night at 7pm. It just goes to show that on any given night…….

Stay close as the road to the Van Noord Arena on the campus of Calvin College the site of the State Championship may have more twists and turns ahead.
