As the regular season winds down, two of the areas best teams over the past few seasons matched up for what would turn out to be an incredible game. The Quest Center on the campus of Grand Rapids Christian was the site. The visiting Godwin Wolverines would bring their 18-1 overall record in with the plan of heading into next weeks Class B District 57 with only one loss. That loss came late in December to Class A Forest Hills Central(16-2 prior to tonights game agianst Grand Haven(13-6). The GR Christian Eagles had other plans.

The first 8 minuets had the Eagles trailing but by only 2 points. Scoring was everywhere and often in the first quarter. The two teams combined for 32 points, with the Wolverines enjoying the lead 17-15. The second quarter was a little more defensively sound but the Eagles were able to take a 6 point lead into the locker room at the half. The Eagles defense along with several whistles helped hold the Wolverines to just 7 points in the quarter. The Eagles led at the intermission by a score of 30-24.

The second half had the scoring for both squads amped up again. Several dunks as well as some timely outside shooting for both teams had the score knotted at 45 after 3 quarters of play. The fourth quarter was much the same with the two teams combining for 42 total quarter points. The Eagles, however, couldn’t overtake the wolverines in the final few minutes and Godwin would eventually win this one by a score of 68-64. If Tyler Whittemore (Godwin’s Head Coach) and Mark Warners (the coach of GR Christian) were looking for a game that would prepare them for post season play, they sure found it tonight. Several fans were even hoping for overtime, as if they didn’t already get their moneys worth with the regulation play.
