The four-time reigning champions in Division 5, the Falcons of West Catholic, were back on their title defense on Friday night against Kalamazoo United. The Falcons were at home, and in control from the kickoff. They had very little trouble in winning 42-0 to advance to next week’s regional finals.
In the first quarter, Gaetano Vallone found Nick Dorato for a twelve yard touchdown pass to open the scoring. Liam Putz’s extra point put the Falcons up by seven.
The second quarter featured a pair of scores by West Catholic as they tripled their lead. Vallone used his legs on a twelve yard quarterback keeper for the first touchdown just thirty-five seconds into the second quarter. With just under two minutes until half, Connor Bolthouse hauled in a pass for a one yard touchdown. He would finish the night with three touches for thirty-four yards and the score. The Falcons took a very comfortable three touchdown lead to the locker room.
After halftime, the third quarter was the most offensively effective for West Catholic. They doubled their three touchdown lead with an additional three scores in the twelve minute frame. Alex King caught a seventeen yard pass for a touchdown to start the scoring at the 10:28 mark. About five minutes later, Nick Dorato hauled in his second touchdown of the night, a sixty-five yard pass. He had another strong game as he finished with four catches for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Alex Fortier would cap off the third quarter with a seven yard run to put the lead at 42 points.
Gateano Vallone had another strong night, as he finished 11/14 for 209 yards and four touchdowns, as well as a fifth touchdown on the ground. With the win, West Catholic advances to the regional finals when they will hit the road to take on Portland. This game will likely take place next Friday, though this will be confirmed during the weekend.
