After nine weeks of the regular season, 256 teams have punched their ticket to the playoffs. This week, the MSR team will be live at eight games in the first round, previewed below.

 

CATHOLIC CENTRAL VS UNITY CHRISTIAN

In Division 4, the Cougars of Catholic Central begin their title defense at home against the Crusaders of Unity Christian. Last week, Catholic Central completed an undefeated regular season after topping Coopersville 52-23. Unity is also coming off a win, as they clinched the playoffs after beating Byron Center 22-21. This will be the fourth straight season these two teams have met in the playoffs. In 2014 and 2015, Unity Christian scored a pair of close wins, but last season Catholic Central handily defeated Unity Christian 31-3 in the semifinals.

 

WEST OTTAWA VS GRANDVILLE

The number six ranked West Ottawa Panthers completed their OK Red title run last week by defeating Grandville 34-18. In the first round of the playoffs, the Bulldogs will get another crack at West Ottawa. They will have to stop Isaac VanDyke and Xavier Wade in order to reach the district finals.

 

ROCKFORD AT GRAND LEDGE

In the second game in the district in Division 1, the Rams of Rockford will hit the road to face the Comets of Grand Ledge. Last week, Rockford earned the crucial sixth win by defeating Hudsonville 37-14. Grand Ledge now sits at 8-1 after defeating Holt 17-3 in the regular season finale. The last time these teams met were in the 2015 Regional Finals when Grand Ledge won 36-16.

 

CEDAR SPRINGS AT EAST GRAND RAPIDS

The number 2 ranked team in the Remax-United Power Poll, East Grand Rapids, completed their undefeated season last week with an impressive defensive effort against South Christian. In the first round of the Division 3 playoffs, they will face Cedar Springs, who is 6-3 this year. Last week, they beat Ottawa Hills 56-12, and they boast a win over Lowell earlier this year. The last time these two met was in the 2007 district finals, a 30-14 East Grand Rapids win on their way to a state championship.

 

KENT CITY VS MORLEY-STANWOOD

The Eagles of Kent City, fresh off a win over Tri-County, completed an undefeated regular season. This week, they will start a playoff push against conference foe Morley-Stanwood. The Mohawks are 7-2 on the year, coming off of a 35-6 defeat against Lake City. These two teams met back in Week 6, and Kent City shut out Morley-Stanwood 28-0.

 

COOPERSVILLE VS COMSTOCK PARK

A pair of 6-3 OK Blue teams are set to square off in Division 4 as Coopersville faces Comstock Park. Last week, Coopersville scored 23 on a Catholic Central, but their defense struggled in a 29-point loss. Comstock Park comes in off of a 47-20 win against Spring Lake. These teams met back in Week 3, and Comstock Park won 42-27. This was their sixth straight win in the series.

 

WEST CATHOLIC VS BERRIEN SPRINGS

The number nine team in the Remax-United Power Poll, West Catholic, kicks off their pursuit of a fifth straight Division 5 championship. Last week, their offense reached historic proportions as they set a school record with 72 points against Allendale. This week, they will face Berrien Springs for the third time in four postseasons. In 2014, West Catholic won 41-6, and last season they won 40-7 in the regional finals.

 

FREELAND VS CARROLLTON

The eighth game of the MSR playoff coverage features another rematch, this one from the TVC-Central. A pair of 6-3 teams, Freeland and Carrollton will pursue a playoff run on Friday night, despite both coming off losses to Frankenmuth and Ithaca respectively. These teams met two weeks ago, and Freeland won 35-18, their 14th straight win in the series dating back to 1993.
