Coopersville Snaps Eight-Year Playoff Drought, Qualifies With Win Over Holland

The Coopersville Broncos had very low external expectations entering Coach Ed Kaman’s first season, especially since Coopersville had not reached the postseason since 2008. After last night’s win over Holland, Coach Kaman’s bunch has reached these new heights. They have compiled the most wins in a season since 2008, and they also reached the playoff for the first time since that year. Neither team scored in the game’s first quarter, but the offense began to pick up in the second quarter. With 9:24 left in the second quarter, Riley Johnson ran it in from four yards to put Coopersville 7-0. Just over three minutes later, he would run it in again from four yards to double their lead to fourteen points. This lead would be trimmed to six points at the break after Eli Maes broke a 37-yard run and they also converted a two-point try. In the third quarter, Riley Johnson hit Brayden Wright for a nine-yard touchdown strike. This would be matched at the four-minute mark of the third quarter as Dameion Webb rushed it in for a five-yard run, trimming the lead back to 21-14. With just 1:29 left in the game, Riley Johnson scampered for his fourth touchdown of the game (third running) as he gained all eleven necessary yards. This would be enough for Coopersville, as they held on for a fourteen point win....

Freeland Clinches Playoff Berth in Win Over Carrollton

The Freeland Falcons entered Week 8 in relatively unchartered waters. The strong success they have had the past few seasons has rarely left them searching for playoff security in the eighth week of the season, but this season was different. With undefeated and state ranked Frankenmuth looming in Week 9, the Falcons knew that the matchup against Carrollton was crucial to clinching a playoff berth.  It was a slow start for Freeland on Friday night, as they spotted the Cavaliers a lead early. Two touchdowns put Carrollton up 12-0 early in the second quarter, as O’Vontay Vickers and Jalen...

Tri-County Snaps Losing Streak at Fremont

The Tri-County Vikings football family had a tough start to the 2017 campaign, losing the first seven games of the season. They played strong in some games, struggled in others, but the result was always the same, a loss. On Friday night, they travelled to Fremont to take on the Packers, the team they last defeated, also in Week 8 a season ago. Much like last season, they found success, leaving town with a 20-15 victory. Tanner Ching was key in this victory for Tri-County as he took 15 carries and turned them into 108 yards. Ethan Rose also added 37 yards on 5 carries, as the Vikings found the most offensive success rushing the ball. Quarterback Bryce Hallman only completed one pass, a 41-yard strike.   With the win, Tri-County improves to 1-7 on the season, and next week they conclude by taking on Kent City, one of the state’s top rated teams. For Fremont, they now sit at 0-8 and will wrap up 2017 by hosting McBain....

Rockford’s Strong Second Half Leads to Win over East Kentwood

With the unexpected emergence of West Ottawa, these two teams found themselves playing in a Week 8 battle that was still important, but it was more releveant toward the playoff picture. The Rams need to win both of their last two games to guarantee a clinched berth, while the Falcons needed just a single win in their last two to reach the threshold. Malik...
