Freeland Tops Standish-Sterling

On Friday night the Falcons of Freeland hit the road for a contest against the Panthers of Standish-Sterling. This game was big for Freeland, as they needed to get back in the win column to get on the playoff track. In a back and forth contest, the Falcons had just enough offense to hold on for a 27-21 victory. Freeland got a strong start to this contest, as they returned the opening kick all the way to the Standish 30 yard line. Just four plays later, they scored on a 29-yard pass from Elijah Vlassis to Jayce Boucher. This would be the only scoring in the first quarter, a 7-0 lead. In the second quarter, the teams traded a pair of touchdowns. Standish-Sterling tied the contest with a 21-yard pass from Shane Deder to Kenny Adrian, but the lead was retaken by Freeland on a seven-yard rush by Garret Metiva. Standish-Sterling once again responded in the third quarter, as Deder kept the ball on a 57-yard rush to even the score at fourteen. Neither team would score the remainder of the fourth quarter, leaving the teams tied into the final quarter of play. In the fourth quarter, Freeland got on the board first with a touchdown by Layne Morgeli scored on a 47-yard touchdown run to put the Falcons up seven.
