The Newaygo Lions and Tri-County Vikings squared off on Friday night in a CSAA-Gold contest, with a pair of teams entering the contest headed in separate directions. The Lions came in at 4-2, winners of three in a row, and jockeying for a potential playoff spot. For Tri-County, they came in on a seven-game losing streak, looking to get their first win since Week 8 of last season. Unfortunately for the Vikings, the trends continued the same way that they started, and Newaygo walked away with a 38-0 victory.
The Lions took a two touchdown lead after the first quarter, and they never looked back. In the second quarter, they doubled their lead as two more touchdowns increased the lead to 28-0. After a scoreless third quarter, Newaygo would get a touchdown and a field goal in the final frame to expand their lead to 38-0. With the win, Newaygo now sits at 5-2, just one win away from the postseason. They will try to get the elusive sixth win next week against Grant, and if they are unsuccessful, they will attempt to get that win in Week 9 against Manistee. For Tri-County, they will look to snap their eight-game losing streak against the Packers of Fremont, who they defeated last season 29-0. Dave Princer and Maisy Nielsen will be LIVE next week for that contest, as well as Tuesday night for the Tri-County Coaches Show.
