The Mona Shores Sailors and Rockford Rams, two teams ranked in the Remax-United Power Poll, faced off Friday night, and the game did not disappoint. Two teams that expect to finish near the top of their leagues and make a playoff push showed their strengths on Friday night, and it required overtime for the Sailors to walk away with a 30-24 victory.

Rockford scored first in an unconventional way, as they blocked a punt and Taylor Green scooped up the ball and scored from 27 yards out to give the Rams a 7-0 lead. The Sailors would respond before the end of the first quarter as Tristan Robbins found the endzone on a 19-yard run to even the score at seven.

Neither team would score in the second quarter, but the Sailors controlled the third quarter to establish a ten-point lead. They got a touchdown run from Damari Roberson and a field goal from Austin Flowers. They had a stronghold on this game it appeared, but Ralph Munger’s bunch did not quit.

The Rams cut the lead to three points after Maliq Thompson scored from a yard out early in the fourth quarter. At the halfway mark of the final quarter, the Rams would take the lead as Jason Whitaker found the end zone from a yard out to give Rockford a 21-17 lead.

Mona Shores would respond as Robbins found Keyshawn Summerville for a 45-yard strike with just fifty six seconds to play, igniting the home crowd into a frenzy. Munger’s bunch once again would respond though, and Eric Zeboor hit a 37-yard field goal to force overtime.

In the extra period, the Rams were unable to score when they had the ball first. On Mona Shores’ first possession, they would score as Dent ran the ball in from two yards out to give the Sailors the 30-24 victory.

With the win, Mona Shores improves to 3-0 on the season and they will begin OK Black play next week against Reeths-Puffer who is also a surprising 3-0. For Rockford, they drop to 1-2 on the season, and they will start OK Red play next week when they host Caledonia who also enters the contest with a record of 1-2.
