Boeve’s Field Goal Tops Red Arrows for First Time on Pink Arrow Night

One of West Michigan’s coolest traditions each year is Pink Arrow Night, a cancer awareness game hosted by the Lowell Red Arrows. For each of the past nine seasons, the community came out to this contest in droves wearing their pink apparel and watching Lowell win blowout football games. This season, the community still came out, but in the first time in ten years the Red Arrows fell on Pink Arrow Night, this time to East Grand Rapids 16-14. Casey Longo’s Pioneers struck first as Connor Davis ran the ball in in the first quarter to give East a...

East Kentwood Prevails in OK-Red Opener over Hudsonville

The OK Red season opened for East Kentwood and Hudsonville on Friday night, and though they entered the game in separate directions, the game was very competitive. The Falcons, who entered this contest a surprising 2-0 with wins against Macomb L’Anse Cruse North and Orchard Lake St Mary’s, faced a Hudsonville team that has struggled to score the ball so far this season. In the first quarter, the Falcons struck first as Dent found a wide open receiver for a four yard touchdown to give East Kentwood a 6-0 lead. This lead would not last though as Hudsonville took the lead back on a 61-yard touchdown run. These two teams went back and forth all night long, and in the fourth quarter Drew Martinie threw a four yard touchdown that gave the Eagles a 17-16 lead with just under nine minutes to play. The Falcons needed just two minutes to strike back as Dent found Kilgore for a 58 yard touchdown pass. The successful two-point try gave EK a 24-17 lead. Hudsonville had one more opportunity to tie the game, but it was unsuccessful and the Falcons open 3-0 for the third time in four seasons. Next week, they will go for a 4-0 start when they travel to Forest Hills Northern in a non-league game. For Hudsonville, they now sit at 1-2 on the season and they face...

Thirty-Five Unanswered Points Carry Comstock Park over Coopersville

Coopersville and Comstock Park, two of the surprise undefeated teams in West Michigan, faced off in their OK Blue opener on Friday night. There were two large momentum shifts in this contest, and the last one led to a 42-27 win by the Panthers. Early on in this one, it was all Coopersville. Cayden Schneider picked up where he left off a week ago, started the scoring with a twenty-two yard run to give the Broncos a 7-0 lead. This was the lone touchdown in the first quarter, but just fifty-five seconds into the second quarter Riley Johnson ran in for a two-yard score to give Coopersville a 14-0 lead. Hunter Spence scored the first touchdown for Comstock Park on an eleven yard run, and this turned the tide of the game. The Panthers would go on to score four more unanswered touchdowns, giving them a 35-14 lead. Spence’s two touchdowns on the night were only surpassed by senior running back JoJo Whitley, who scored three times in the contest. Cayden Schneider scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to bring the Broncos within eight points, but Whitley’s third touchdown sealed the deal, a fifteen point Comstock Park win. The Broncos now fall to 2-1 on the season, 0-1 in the OK Blue, and next week they host 3-0 Sparta. For Comstock Park, they improve to 3-0, 1-0 in...
