Two of West Michigan’s premier programs faced off in the second week of the season, as Lowell and Rockford met up at Ted Carlson Stadium in Rockford. In a low scoring affair the Red Arrows emerged victorious 14-0, improving their record to 2-0.
In the first quarter, the Red Arrows got on the board as Ben Lobbezoo punched it in from 18 yards out to give Lowell the 7-0 lead. At the end of the second quarter, Lowell expanded their lead to fourteen points as David Kruse scored from five yards out with four seconds left in the half to expand the lead to fourteen points.
The Lowell defense was stout for the second straight week as they have now allowed just six total points in two games against elite teams (Warren DeLaSalle and Rockford). The Rockford defense is also very strong, allowing just fourteen points in two games, but their offense has struggled. The Rams’ offense has just scored fourteen points in two games so far this season.
With the win, Lowell is now 2-0 on the season. Next week, they will take on the East Grand Rapids Pioneers in their third non-conference battle, and both teams enter the game 2-0. For Rockford, they drop to 1-1 on the season, and next week they wrap up their non-conference schedule with Mona Shores. The Sailors are 2-0 after they have defeated Canton and Zeeland West in the first two games of the year.
