The Tri-County Vikings began the 2017 season at home on Thursday night, as the Wildcats of Lakeview came to town. The offense for Tri-County struggled all night, as they racked up just 129 total yards. Lakeview found the scoring column early in the first quarter, as they scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and a two-point conversion for a 15-0 lead.
Lakeview would never look back in this contest, as they marched on to a 38-6 victory Thursday night. They were led by Jason Kroeze, who rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns on twelve carries. Addison Mitchell and Jacob Cole also added touchdowns for the Wildcats on the ground. They only threw four passes in yesterday’s ball game, and their quarterback Jacob Cole finished 1/4 for 27 yards. But as the old saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. They stuck to the ground game all night long as six players carried the ball for Lakeview on Thursday night to combine for 40 carries and they racked up 299 yards on the ground.
For Tri-County offensively, they committed more penalties (seven) than first downs (four). The 129 yards were primarily gained on the ground, as Cayden Luchies attempted just four passes Thursday night, finishing 2/4 for seventeen yards. Kyle Proctor was the Vikings’ leading rusher as he had twelve carries for fifty-nine yards. The lone touchdown was scored by Tanner Ching, a one yard run, and he would finish Thursday night with twelve carries for thirty-two yards.
With the loss, the Vikings fall to 0-1 on the season. They will be back in action on Thursday next week as conference play kicks off against Central Montcalm. The Hornets will also enter the contest 0-1 after falling to Morley-Stanwood 12-6 on Thursday night. This game will be broadcast LIVE next Thursday on MSR with Dave Princer and Maisy Nielsen on the call.
