The OK Red conference season is in full swing now as the teams are nearly wrapping up the first half of the conference season. Caledonia, led by head coach Phil Visser, faced two tough league opponents this week. Hudsonville is a team that is still somewhat figuring out where they stack up this season, as they entered Tuesday’s game at 5-4 with five wins against inferior opponents and four losses against tough teams. Although Rockford was 2-7 entering play Friday, they have played a daunting schedule so far, and their talent is far superior of a team five games below five hundred. Both of these teams earned big bounce back wins over Caledonia this week as detailed below.
TUESDAY: HUDSONVILLE 81 CALEDONIA 45
On Tuesday in Caledonia, the Eagles put up their highest offensive numbers of the season as they snapped a two-game losing streak in OK Red play. Thanks to stingy defensive rebounding and unselfishness on the offensive end, Coach Eric Elliott’s team had this game in control from the start as they led 15-0 early. The Scots finally got on the board with two minutes left in the first quarter, but it wasn’t nearly fast enough as they trailed 25-8 after the first quarter. Brady Boothe paced the Eagles with fifteen first half points as eight different Eagles contributed to the scoring column in the first sixteen minutes.
In the second half, it was much of the same as Hudsonville outscored Caledonia by eleven more points. The Eagles really limited their turnovers in this contest, while forcing the Scots into many tough offensive possessions. Despite only scoring one point in the second half, Boothe led all scorers with sixteen points.
FRIDAY: ROCKFORD 59 CALEDONIA 49
The Rams set off to Caledonia on Friday in another tough league battle, and in a back and first opening half, they had some key help from senior Nate Anderson. He served as a do-it-all player in the first half as he scored thirteen points to go along with four rebounds, four assists and two steals. This was a huge contribution for Rockford, as they were looking to fill the void of two missing starters to their lineup (Teague Farley and Ryan Gamm). Despite this huge performance for Anderson, the Scots actually held a 33-32 halftime lead.
In the second half, senior Jason Majerle got hot at the right time as he hit three huge three pointers to spark the Rockford offense. This created a deficit that the Scots simply did not have enough time to overcome. Majerle finished with 28 points to lead all scorers, while Anderson contributed 18. For Caledonia, cousins Jesse and Truman Hillis played strong on the offense end as Jesse chipped in 16 and Truman chipped in eleven.
At the end of the week, the OK Red Conference Standings read as follows:
1-Holland West Ottawa 8-1 (4-0 OK Red)
2-Grand Haven 8-3 (2-2 OK Red)
2-East Kentwood 5-5 (2-2 OK Red)

2-Rockford 3-7 (2-2 OK Red)
6-Hudsonville 6-5 (2-3 OK Red)
7-Caledonia 5-5 (1-4 OK Red)
