On Friday night, Grand Rapids Christian, the number #1 team in the Remax-United Power Poll,  had yet another stellar performance as they picked up a dominant 71-35 home win over South Christian.

The Sailors started the game off strong, as they held an 8-4 lead early on. Following that however, the Eagles responded with a 10-0 run, and it was all over from there. Led by Xavier Tillman’s sixteen points, Grand Rapids Christian dominated this game as a result of their strong transition ability. Playing above the rim all day, paired with a strong day behind the arc, the Eagles offense put up a strong seventy-one point effort. When you add the team’s relentless defense, led by Emmett Warners, the Eagles showed everyone how they are a top team in the state. Announcer Dave VanNoord even referred to the Eagles as a “five-tool team”, as they play all facets of the game tremendously strong.

Also contributing strong efforts for the Eagles were Duane Washington (nine points), James Beck (eight points) and Thad Shymanski (seven points). For South Christian, they were led by Conner Kok (eight points), and Alec Wolstra (six points). With the win, Grand Rapids Christian now improves to 6-0 on the season, and 3-0 in the OK Gold. Next week, they will hit the road twice, at Thornapple Kellogg on Friday and at Grand Rapids Catholic Central on Saturday. For South Christian, they now sit at 3-5 on the year, and they will host Wyoming on Tuesday before travelling to East Grand Rapids on Friday.
