West Ottawa Gains Road Conference Win at Rockford

After last week’s heartbreaking loss to Hudsonville, the Rams returned to the court Friday night for another OK Red contest as they hosted the West Ottawa Panthers. In the first quarter, Rockford struggled and they managed just five points, resulting in a twelve point deficit after the first eight minutes. Things never got better for Rockford, as they failed to reach double digits in the second or third quarter either. The Rams scored seven and eight points respectively in these quarters, and as a result they trailed 41-20 entering the final frame. Despite outscoring the Panthers by ten in the fourth quarter, Rockford still got knocked off by a score of 50-39 dropping them to 1-7 on the season and 0-2 in the OK Red. With the win, West Ottawa improved to 6-1 on the season, and they now sit at 2-0 in the OK Red. The Panthers were led by Tyler Bosma (twelve points), Nick Wehrmeyer (ten points), and Jake VanTubbergen (ten points). For Rockford, they got another strong effort from Ryan Gamm (eleven points), and they also had the highest scorer in the game in senior Jason Majerle (thirteen points). Next week, West Ottawa continues league play with a home game against Grand Haven on Tuesday, followed by a home matchup with East Kentwood on Friday. Grand Rapids Christian Continues Dominance in Win Over South Christian

On Friday night, Grand Rapids Christian, the number #1 team in the Remax-United Power Poll,  had yet another stellar performance as they picked up a dominant 71-35 home win over South Christian. The Sailors started the game off strong, as they held an 8-4 lead early on. Following that however, the Eagles responded with a 10-0 run, and it was all over from there. Led by Xavier Tillman’s sixteen points, Grand Rapids Christian dominated this game as a result of their strong transition ability. Playing above the rim all day, paired with a strong day behind the arc, the Eagles offense put up a strong seventy-one point effort. When you add the team’s relentless defense, led by Emmett Warners, the Eagles showed everyone how they are a top team in the state. Announcer Dave VanNoord even referred to the Eagles as a “five-tool team”, as they play all facets of the game tremendously strong. Also contributing strong efforts for the Eagles were Duane Washington (nine points), James Beck (eight points) and Thad Shymanski (seven points). For South Christian, they were led by Conner Kok (eight points), and Alec Wolstra (six points). With the win, Grand Rapids Christian now improves to 6-0 on the season, and 3-0 in the OK Gold.
