Grandville Shuts Out Grand Ledge in Division 1 Playoff Opener

Throughout the course of the regular season, the Grandville Bulldogs have been one of the dominant defenses in the state of Michigan. In nine regular season games, they had allowed just an average of 5.8 points per game, including a pair of shutouts. Tonight, Grandville was engaged as a defensive unit and pitched their third shutout of 2016, a 37-0 victory over Grand Ledge in the first round of the MHSAA Division 1 playoffs. The Bulldogs jumped on the board in the first quarter as quarterback Brady Paganelli hit Josh Atwell on a 22 yard strike, giving Grandville a 6-0 lead. This was all that Grandville needed to record the victory, however their offense was far from being done. Grandville took to the ground for their final four touchdowns, as they have done so successfully throughout the entire season. Josh Atwell scored twice on the ground to bring his daily touchdown total to three as he ran in from one and two yards out respectively. Jake Tipton and Shane Baker also added touchdown runs to help propel the Bulldogs. With the win, Grandville advances to the MHSAA Division 1 Region 1 District 1 Championship game where they will get a rematch with the Rockford Rams. First Round Playoff Preview

The 2016 MHSAA Playoffs begin on Friday with 272 teams vying for nine state championships. While all of the West Michigan matchups can be found on our Playoff Central page, the five games that Michigan Sports Radio will be broadcasting this week are previewed more in depth below.   Rockford (6-3) at Hudsonville (8-1) In a rematch of a week nine battle in which the Eagles emerged victorious 14-7, Rockford will travel to Hudsonville for the second straight week looking to change the outcome. In seventeen all time meetings, Rockford holds the 10-7 edge. This is the fourth consecutive year that the two teams will meet up in the postseason after meeting up in OK Red play. Hudsonville has won two of the three playoff games, despite losing all three regular season games in the same season. The running abilities of senior tailbacks Nick Isley and Dalton Agers will be a key matchup to watch.   Grand Ledge (7-2) at Grandville (8-1) The OK Red Champion Grandville Bulldogs will begin their quest for their first playoff win since 2005 when they host the Comets of Grand Ledge.
