Last Friday, the Hudsonville Eagles and the Rockford Rams took to the field with the OK Red title on the line. After a hard fought battle, Hudsonville emerged victorious 14-7. The MHSAA decided that this contest was so great, that they needed to rematch in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs. In the second matchup, the Rams jumped out to an early lead and took control of the matchup, earning a 24-7 victory.
Nick Isley broke through the Hudsonville defense for a 97 yard run about halfway through the first quarter to put Rockford ahead by seven. They would tack on a touchdown and a field goal and take a comfortable 17-7 lead into the half. Rockford’s Isley, one of the elite running backs in the state of Michigan, scored on another run of two yards, but his score was set up by a fifty yard run earlier in the drive.
The Rams advance to the district finals, where they will meet Grandville, and they are the lone team to defeat the Bulldogs in the regular season. Rockford will travel to Grandville for the second meeting, with a district championship on the line.
