Throughout the course of the regular season, the Grandville Bulldogs have been one of the dominant defenses in the state of Michigan. In nine regular season games, they had allowed just an average of 5.8 points per game, including a pair of shutouts. Tonight, Grandville was engaged as a defensive unit and pitched their third shutout of 2016, a 37-0 victory over Grand Ledge in the first round of the MHSAA Division 1 playoffs.
The Bulldogs jumped on the board in the first quarter as quarterback Brady Paganelli hit Josh Atwell on a 22 yard strike, giving Grandville a 6-0 lead. This was all that Grandville needed to record the victory, however their offense was far from being done.
Grandville took to the ground for their final four touchdowns, as they have done so successfully throughout the entire season. Josh Atwell scored twice on the ground to bring his daily touchdown total to three as he ran in from one and two yards out respectively. Jake Tipton and Shane Baker also added touchdown runs to help propel the Bulldogs.
With the win, Grandville advances to the MHSAA Division 1 Region 1 District 1 Championship game where they will get a rematch with the Rockford Rams. These two teams played a sloppy game back in September when the Rams won 7-6, Grandville’s lone loss this year. This game will take place in Grandville next week, at a time officially to be announced later in the weekend. It will be broadcasted exclusively LIVE online here at MSR.
