Freeland, fresh off a 9-0 season and a TVC-Central Championship, began their playoff push by hosting TVC-Central foe Saginaw Swan Valley. Earlier in the season, the Vikings gave Freeland one of their toughest tests of the season, as they led multiple times before ultimately falling 29-14. Tonight, the story was quite different as Freeland jumped on Swan Valley from the start and they will advance with a 42-14 victory.
Garhet Metiva, Freeland’s top rusher throughout the season, scored two touchdowns tonight, the game’s first on a eighteen yard run, and then a six yard run in the third quarter to spark the rushing attack. As usual however, Freeland has a handful of rushers and tonight Matt Bell added three scores to carry lead the team in offense, scoring three times.
Swan Valley got a pair of long touchdown runs by Emmett Boehler for both of their touchdowns, but they did not have much more production from their offense. Their season will end at the hands of their conference foes and they finish with a 6-4 record.
For Freeland, they will advance to the MHSAA Division 5 Region 2 District 2 Championship game, where they will face off against Frankenmuth. These two schools met in Week 9, where Freeland won in a low-scoring 7-3 battle, and this week’s matchup should be just as exciting. Catch the action LIVE next week here exclusively at MSR.
