Tonight, the Vikings of Tri-County hosted Fremont in a battle of two teams that are playing purely for pride in CSAA-Gold play. The Packers of Fremont have struggled this season, and they entered tonight with a 0-7 record, while Tri-County entered the game at 2-5. Tri-County played very strong tonight as they shutout the Packers 29-0.

In the first quarter, Tri-County opened the scoring with a 35 yard field goal on the leg of senior Lucas Prater. In the second quarter, a glimmer of youth and hope for Viking Nation was shown as sophomore Tanner Ching scored from a yard out to give the Vikings a 10-0 lead at the break.

The second half was more of a strong effort by the Viking defense as they held Fremont without a point, recording the first shutout since September 25, 2009 when Tri-County shutout Newaygo 35-0. The offense was boosted by a pair of touchdowns by senior Eli Longcore, playing in his final home game tonight.

It was a valiant Senior Day effort for the Vikings as they snapped a four game losing streak, and gave the home crowd a victory to celebrate headed into the offseason. Tri-County wraps up its 2016 campaign next Friday when it travels to Kent City, and a win would increase their win total from a season ago. Last fall, Tri-County defeated Kent City 35-7, but they will have their hands full this year as the Eagles entered Friday night with a 5-2 record.
