Core Power Performance Players of the Week: Wk 1

Throughout the high school football season, the Michigan Sports Radio staff will be selecting players that will serve as the Core Power Performance Players of the Week. The Week 1 Core Power Performance Players of the Week: Aaron Sleeman (Zeeland West): In a low-scoring 14-9 win in which the Dux had two drives of ten plus minutes in the second half, Aaron Sleeman found the end zone twice for Zeeland West. His touchdown with 1:43 in the game put them up for good over Cedar Springs in the lone battle of ranked teams. Cameron Robinson (Caledonia): Robinson caught his first three varsity touchdowns in the Scots 55-52 win over Fenton. His seven yard catch in the second quarter brought the Scots within seven. In the fourth quarter, he hauled in two touchdowns, a 56-yard strike to pull the Scots within three, and a touchdown with 4:36 to play that sealed the victory. Connor Bolthouse (West Catholic): Bolthouse was a key player in the secondary and on special teams for the Falcons in their 30-13 win over Jackson Lumen Christi. Bolthouse hauled in two interceptions as well as returning a kickoff 75 yards to the house for a score. Coopersville Opens Season With Win Over Fruitport

Saturday afternoon in part of the GRidiron Classic at Lubbers Stadium on the campus of Grand Valley State University, the Coopersville Broncos opened their season against the Trojans of Fruitport. In a 36-13 Bronco victory, they took advantage of key mistakes by Fruitport, capitalizing for points each time. After Fruitport scored at the end of the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead, Coopersville responded with 28 unanswered points to take complete control of the game. The first Coopersville touchdown was the result of short field position as Tony Nikodemski recovered an errant punt snap on the three yard line before Riley Johnson found Jake Domanski on a two yard pass. Fruitport turned the ball over three times and Coopersville scored on all three short fields. Quarterback Riley Johnson accounted for all five touchdowns, passing to Jake Domanski, Cayden Schneider, Brendan Wright (twice) and Connor Hilton for scores. He finished the game with 286 yards on 22/32 passing. In the losing effort, Fruitport tailback Levi Six had 129 yards and two touchdowns on the game, despite consistently struggling with cramps in the second half. Coopersville (1-0) will travel to Hamilton (1-0) next week in a chance to improve their record to 2-0 for the second year in a row. Fruitport (0-1) will host Spring Lake in their annual rivalry game between teams trying to bounce back after a week one loss....

Caledonia’s Seniors Score All Eight Touchdowns in Shootout Win over Fenton

Caledonia football missed the playoffs a season ago with a 5-4 record. This paired with the Scots moving to the OK Red put a big chip on the senior class to play at a heightened level of success in order to reach the postseason in 2016. In Saturday’s season opener against Fenton at Grand Valley State in the nightcap of the GRidiron Classic, four seniors did that as they would do all of the scoring for Caledonia in a 55-52 shootout victory. Caledonia only led this contest for six minutes and thirty seconds, but they were the game’s final six and a half...
