West Catholic Dominates Jackson Lumen Christi in Season Opener

Photo Courtesy of Laurie Timmer   Last fall, Jackson Lumen Christi and West Catholic met in the season opener. These two played a very close game that Lumen Christi took 22-21. Zeeland East Scores 39 Unanswered Points to top Swan Valley

In the second game of the GRidiron Classic at Davenport University, the Zeeland East Chix took on the Vikings of Saginaw Swan Valley, a program that has made the program seven of the past eight seasons. Swan Valley jumped out to a hot start as they drove down the field on their first drive without hesitation, capped off by a seven yard run by Emmett Boehler. Just moments later, on the very first play of the second quarter, Boehler struck again as he was on the receiving end of a 78 yard touchdown from Alex Fries to put the Vikings up 14. Three minutes later, the Vikings offense scored again as Boehler broke free for a 54 yard touchdown run to give Swan Valley a 21-0 lead. A blowout in favor of the visiting team from Saginaw seemed very likely. In perhaps the turning point of the game, Zeeland East fielded the ensuing kickoff and nearly broke it for a touchdown. This would lead to Donovan Dy reaching the end zone on a short run to put the Chix within two scores. After a fast stop, Ensing found Trevor TerHaar on a deep ball 63 yards for a touchdown, and Zeeland East was right back in it down 21-12. In the third quarter, quarterback Keegan Ensing took over as he ran for two touchdowns and threw for a third...
